The Eternal Weight of Glory and the Believer's Inheritance
Luke 12:34
“For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.”
Many believers live their lives under a tragic misconception. They believe that the ultimate goal of the Gospel is simply to "avoid hell and make it into heaven." But the Scriptures reveal a far more magnificent, active, and glorious reality. We are not just saved from the wrath of God; we are saved for the Kingdom of God.
The God of Israel does not just want to forgive you—He wants to reward you, to crown you, and to give you an eternal inheritance in the restored creation.
We often think it is somehow "unspiritual" to desire rewards. Yet, the writer of Hebrews declares that expecting a reward from God is actually a strict requirement of true faith (Emunah). We are sojourners here, looking for the city He has built.
Hebrews 11:6
And without faith it is impossible to please Him, for whoever would draw near to God must believe that He exists and that He rewards those who seek Him.
Hebrews 11:16
But as it is, they desire a better country, that is, a heavenly one. Therefore God is not ashamed to be called their God, for He has prepared for them a city.
Every believer must face a future event known as the Judgment Seat of The Messiah. This is not a judgment for your salvation—your sins were already judged and paid for at the cross. Rather, this is a judgment of works and rewards.
2 Corinthians 5:9–10
So whether we are at home or away, we make it our aim to please Him. For we must all appear before the judgment seat of The Messiah, so that each one may receive what is due for what he has done in the body, whether good or evil.
1 Corinthians 4:5
Therefore do not pronounce judgment before the time, before the Lord comes, who will bring to light the things now hidden in darkness and will disclose the purposes of the heart. Then each one will receive his commendation from God.
On that day, the hidden motives of our hearts will be exposed. We are saved by grace alone, but our rank, authority, and crowns in the coming Kingdom will be directly determined by our obedience today.
While every believer is equally saved by the blood of the Lamb, we will not all possess the same level of glory in the eternal Kingdom. The Apostle Sha'ul (Paul) makes a breathtaking revelation about our future resurrected bodies (Tehiyat HaMetim).
1 Corinthians 15:41–42
There is one glory of the sun, and another glory of the moon, and another glory of the stars; for star differs from star in glory. So is it with the resurrection of the dead.
In the night sky, some stars are faintly visible, while others blaze with intense, undeniable radiance. In the world to come, the degree to which you shine—your literal, eternal capacity to reflect the glory of the Creator—will be directly tied to how faithfully you ran your race on earth. As the prophet Daniel declared, those who turn many to righteousness will shine "like the stars forever and ever" (Daniel 12:3).
You cannot take your earthly wealth, your status, or your comfort with you when you die. However, Yeshua gave us the ultimate investment strategy: you can send it ahead.
Matthew 13:44–46 (The Pearl of Great Price)
“The Kingdom of Heaven is like treasure hidden in a field, which a man found and covered up. Then in his joy he goes and sells all that he has and buys that field. Again, the Kingdom of Heaven is like a merchant in search of fine pearls, who, on finding one pearl of great value, went and sold all that he had and bought it.”
When you sacrifice your time to serve the broken, when you endure mockery for loving the Truth, and when you give your resources to expand the Gospel, you are exchanging temporary, decaying currency for imperishable, eternal treasure.
Because the rewards are eternal and the time is short, the Prophets urge us to align our minds with the mind of the Creator before the day of judgment arrives.
Isaiah 55:6–9
“Seek the LORD while He may be found; call upon Him while He is near; let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts; let him return to the LORD, that He may have compassion on him, and to our God, for He will abundantly pardon. For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, declares the LORD."
The journey is not easy. The world will fight you, the flesh will tempt you, and the enemy will try to exhaust you. This is why the Scriptures urgently warn us not to fall away through unbelief, just as the ancient Israelites missed the Promised Land.
Hebrews 4:1, 9-11
Therefore, while the promise of entering His rest still stands, let us fear lest any of you should seem to have failed to reach it... So then, there remains a Sabbath rest for the people of God, for whoever has entered God's rest has also rested from his works as God did from His. Let us therefore strive to enter that rest...
We are pressing in toward the ultimate Shabbat—the Millennial reign of the Messiah, where the curse of sin is broken, the earth is restored to Edenic perfection, and the tears of the saints are wiped away forever.
At the end of the age, the greatest reward of the believer is not a mansion made of gold. It is not the crowns we will cast at His feet. The ultimate, breathtaking reward of the Gospel is unbroken access to the Creator Himself.
Hebrews 4:14–16
Since then we have a great High Priest who has passed through the heavens, Yeshua, the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession... Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.
Hebrews 12:1–2 (Running the Race)
Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a Cloud of Witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking to Yeshua, the Founder and Perfecter of our faith...
If you are weary, persecuted, or discouraged, lift up your eyes. You belong to a heavenly country. The momentary, light afflictions of this world are preparing for you an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison.
Run the race. Keep the faith. The King is coming, and His reward is with Him.
